Nominations, people? Ideas for length of term?

I would like to nominate myself if it's fine to do so.
I'm really active here on the forums, I think I have a pretty good handle on our general "feel" in terms of the content, trends, etc. that we all enjoy. I also help with equality concerns by filling a monority role (mentally ill and Transsexual).

Alternatively, I think Pete or Adushan would make good CPMs, as Adushan is in a similar position as I and Pete has already started the rallying cries with his Weekly Nukes.

I think a monthly rotating cast of CPMs would be really cool, so long as there is a person willing to take the role on, but quarterly (like the 21st of December, March, June and September, as nice relatable dates) would allow for slightly longer scoped ideas?

A point I've chatted to a few people about is that if you were to have voting, it wouldn't be too terrible. The idea of the CPM is to have somebody most wired into the community, and voting tends to be a popularity contest. Whilst the later sucks, I would guess popularity/notoriety ties fairly well to being a good link between the council and the community.

The role itself is as yet undefined, so suggestions are welcome

Council meetings are going to be every two weeks-ish. How communication between the CPM and the rest of the council/staff works... I've no clue yet. I think the CPM is going to be one of those roles which is pretty unique. At the very least, the CPM will be invited to every meeting, and able to put forwards proposals and the like. To start with, it'll likely just be an extra person for ideas to bounce off, or an extra pair of ears to listen in.

When we have a couple of people who step up and say "hey I'd be into that" you can set up a poll ^^ then the statistics are visible, too. it seems the easiest way to set up voting.

That's only if we/you want voting. You could always take it in turns, and people just put their name down on a list. There's many options

I vote not me. It seems like work.

Since Faye is the most active and actually in the UK, there's no time zone issues and meetings can be attended, blah blah blah I vote Faye.

Meetings are arranged to be convenient in the US & UK (well, they're arranged to be convenient for council members). Faye gets a vote Though we should keep "voting" open for a while to get more people's feedback.

Another issue is the role itself. I have some ideas of what the CPM should do/be responsible for, but what do you think?

A community manager should be the voice of the community, so they should be vocal and in touch and represent them without personal bias. In terms of jobs, the forum admin, weekly forum round-ups/weekly Nukes, etc. they should also not be an asshole.

Forum admin I think should be totally separate to CPM, as forum admin isn't a position of authority. It's got a skill set that I think is better suited to somebody who has learned how to use stuff.

Also, if you limit it to people who aren't assholes, how will Adu get a go? /buuuuuuuurn

That construes verbal abuse and according to the terms of service of Nukezilla you should apologise and promise to never do it again.

This is exactly the reason we need a representative at Nukezilla's meetings, to prevent management infringing upon our rights and insulting our integrity.

Also, assholes do get into positions of power, just look at the Editor in Chief. Sick buuuuuurn!

First order of business Faye, tell John to eat a dick!

(seriously, isn't this the kind of behaviour we should be discouraging? I think it would be cool if there was an easy PM function for admins to warn people of their transgressions)

A forum where one cannot be commanded to eat a dick is no forum at all, sir. And I think we should totally have live chat debates and full election campaign business to decide the CPM. It would be glorious. Also, shooped campaign posters.

I think if it's us, Adu, all is fine. A general code of conduct for all staff and community members is probably a good idea, but not one so strict we can't have some polite, impolite banter every now and again.

Campaign posters are a must I think. So we need campaigns.

So, my ideas for what the CPM does:

- Attends council meetings, representing the community
- Works with me, or others, to develop community specific things (Prime, for example)
- Brings issues community members have to the council
- Works to build and strengthen the community; features, events etc.
- Help with conflict resolution if people fall out
- Manage moderators (either by being a mod, or making sure those who are mods are doing a good job, helping where needed)
- Welcoming new members
- Promoting good behaviour / leading by example

I like Wordpress and the forum in its current incarnation, personally. If there are any dissenters though I'd be willing to listen. What is a forum changeover process like? Would we lose history etc. like posts and things?

Those questions you would need to research the answers to. It depends what software we move to or from. Usually, it's a pain in the arse and takes ages.

But seriously I have some ideas as to how the forums could be improved. Like for starters having a reply feature that cascades under the person's reply, and having image links that correct themselves so it's easier than the pain in the arse system that exists now.

Be sure these ideas are realistic. I have ideas about how when you reply, you get free chocolate, but sadly that's not possible. If your idea has a bbPress plugin, we're fine. However, if the idea would require a week of dev from me, I'm already working at basically full capacity so that's not really possible.

Alrighty then, I found some plugins so tell me what you think:
1. Ability to rate posts
2. Ability to PM a poster
3. Ability to display an image based on the user's post count
4. A WYSIWYG text editor (easier italics, bold, linking etc.)

So, when picking a new forum software you need to research:

* how easy or hard it is to connect to WordPress (bbPress lets you log in, and it logs you into the main site)
* how easy it is to transfer the existing forum data across (so from bbPress to BBS, you might be able to go via another piece of software)
* can it be updated/easily edited?

I've been thinking aboutt his as a hypothetical so far, is there a reason we should be genuinely considering changing the ofrum software, like the bug that allowed Nukezilla to take part in behind the scenes DDOS attacks in the old forum software?

Also, if Faye does nothing for a year I'd arrange a Coup d' etat. Or Coup de Grace. Some kind of activity where we could scream,"Off with their head!" And then go for cake. Mmm. Cake.

....er...so yes keep the software and add plugins. And different colours. And spangly jump suits.

Err, DDoS? The old software had a security hole, but I don't think our server actually DoS'ed anyone else (other than an unconnected incident where two NZ servers effectively DoS'ed each other).

I don't know if there's a good reason to move, this is the decision of the CPM
